York & Lancaster (Limit of One)
York and Lancaster (also known as War of the Roses) is a historic Ball/Pompon dahlia of French origin. Despite is origin its be clamed by Northern England. Dating back to the early 20th century, this could well be the oldest Dahlia of 'modern times' still in excistance - yet it's only recently made it to Australia.
Its blooms are a mix of red and white, with each flower showing a unique marbling or split colouring. The name recalls the English Wars of the Roses between the House of York (white rose) and the House of Lancaster (red rose), making it both a horticultural treasure and a cultural symbol. Sought after by collectors for its age and heritage value, it remains one of the most recognisable novelty dahlias.
